FAQs

Q. What is minimum age for the tours?

A. For single paddlers the minimum age is 18.  For kids that are paddling with a legal guardian, the minimum age is 12.

Q. Do I need to be able to swim?

A. Being able to swim is highly recommended, however we are usually paddling in shallow water and PFDs (lifejackets) are mandatory.

Q. Do I need any of my own equipment?

A. No. We provide everything you need for your adventure.  We do have some people that choose to bring their own PFDs.

Q. I am a larger paddler; will I be able to fit in the kayak?

A. Yes we can accommodate large paddlers. Our sit-on kayak allow for larger paddlers to easily get on and off without having to do any yoga moves.  Our kayak are rated for 500 lbs, so paddlers under 350lb should have no issues. The closer to the weight limit the more unstable it becomes. If you think this might be an issue, give us a call to discuss. This low impact sport is great exercise for those with sore hips, knees or ankles.

Q. How fit do I need to be to kayak?

A. Our shoreline paddles allow you to paddle at your own rate.  There is no pressure to stay with a group or set any speed records.  If you are fit enough to walk, then you should be fine in the kayak.

Q. I have mobility issues, will I be able to get in and out of the kayak?

A. For first time paddlers we use sit on top kayaks and use zero entry launch points.  This allows paddlers to sit on kayak and then swing their legs over.  There is no climbing in and out of a tight cockpit required.

Q. What should I wear?

A. Dress for the weather and bring a dry change of clothes and a small towel.  We suggest wearing quick drying clothes if you have them and a good pair of water shoes or buckle-up sandals.  Please refrain from wearing slip on shoes.  If it is sunny out a hat and sun screen should also be on your list.

Q. Will I get wet?

A. Paddlers usually get a little wet getting in and out of the kayak as we start a few feet off shore.  There is also some spray and splashing from the paddling and of course from the breaching killer whales (wishful thinking).

Q. How long are the tours?

A. We are usually on the water for 2 hours, but the outings can be adjusted to be shorter or longer.  This includes a few quick lessons and then a shoreline tour.  If you have back issues and need to take frequent breaks to stretch or rest, we can easily accommodate you.
