Little Saskatchewan
Today we did a group trip down the Little Saskatchewan River starting at Hwy 10 crossing by Minnedosa, MB; 3 kayaks and 1 canoe. None of us had been down this stretch of river, so we didn't know what to expect around each corner, and there where lots of corners. Paddling downstream, it flet like we were fighting the wind the whole way during this 4.5 hour leasure paddle. There were lots of great sandbars that made for easy pit stops for snack and an opportunity to take a dip in the river and cool off. Allthough the water level was decent, there were several run-ins with rocks that were just under the surface. The canoe got stuck more than the kayaks due to sitting in the water a little lower. There were a few tipsy moments in teh kayaks as well, but everyone stayed upright and dry. There was lots of great scenery through this valley and some fun small rapid sections that made for some entertainment. No big surprises and no portages. Another first paddle for Mystic.
